About the Artist
Glenna Avila is a visual artist and educator, born and raised in Los Angeles. She has painted over 75 community murals throughout Los Angeles County, most of which are collaborations with youth and their communities. Her most well-known mural is on the 101 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, "L.A. Freeway Kids." This mural was commissioned for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics by the Olympic Organizing Commission as part of the Olympic Arts Festival. She has exhibited her work at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Laguna Art Museum, Natural History Museum, Self-Help Graphics & Art, Anchorage Museum of Art and History, among other spaces.
