The Oscar Salas Scholarship Fund at Plaza de La Raza
In honor of our beloved son, brother, colleague, and friend Oscar Salas we invite all of you to celebrate his legacy by donating to this scholarship initiative supporting Plaza de La Raza at the request of the Salas Family.
This scholarship is being created to honor the legacy of Oscar Salas, a multidisciplinary artist and choreographer. This scholarship fund will provide low-income students (or those with gifted artistic talents) no-cost tuition for Plaza de La Raza in visual arts or dance courses for students enrolled in K-12. Additionally, higher education scholarships will be awarded annually to LAUSD graduating seniors enrolling or planning to attend a college/university with declared majors in visual and performing arts, dance, or education.
Plaza de La Raza was Oscar’s home away from home and most recently a canvas for creative expression through curated memorial fountain altars/displays for Día de Los Muertos. He also served as the Artistic Director of Plaza’s resident company Folklor Pasion Mexicana since 2011. Oscar served close to 30 years as an education administrator for LAUSD, working at several schools within the most impoverished neighborhoods of East and South Los Angeles. During his time at LAUSD, he always used a creative approach and art creations to inspire students, teachers, school staff, and parents to ensure inclusion and strengthen community relations.
Oscar touched the lives of so many dancers, students, families and co-workers, his Plaza family, with joy, grace, creativity, and charm, and always so available to contribute to our Mexican culture. His loss cuts deep into our hearts, but he is loved and forever remembered. Oscar Salas, PRESENTE!
