Benefit for Plaza de la Raza’s Youth Arts Programs
You are cordially invited to a benefit community screening of the documentary film Ugly Little Monkeys: A True American Story at Plaza de la Raza's Margo Albert Theatre on Thursday evening, May 16, 2024, 5:30-9:30 PM. Be a part of the first Los Angeles audience to experience this poignant documentary film chronicling the unique and triumphant story of Los Changuitos Feos de Tucson and the origins of American youth mariachi in the 1960s. Special reception, performance, and Q&A with the filmmakers included. Tickets begin at $100, proceeds will support our ongoing arts education programs and talented young musicians at Plaza de la Raza!
Ugly Little Monkeys: A True American Story, co-directed by David E. Valdez and Enrique Castillo and executive produced by Edward James Olmos, Marsha Grand, and Justin Krienbrink, delves into the compelling saga of Los Changuitos Feos de Tucson, the original youth Mariachi group in the U.S.
SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Join us in celebrating the living tradition of Youth Mariachi by becoming a sponsor of our Ugly Little Monkeys screening and fundraiser to benefit the center's ongoing arts education programs. May 16th activities will include a performance by Plaza's Youth Mariachi Ensemble and a special pre-reception followed by the screening and Q&A with the filmmakers from 5:30-9:30 pm. Original members of Los Changuitos Feos de Tucson will also be in attendance.
