About the Artist
Maricela Sosa is a 2nd generation papel picado artist. She learned the Mexican art form from her mother, Margaret Sosa, who has been her biggest influence in the traditional art of paper cutting.
For the past decade she has been an art instructor at Plaza de La Raza teaching papel picado and other Mexican cultural art activities as well as decorating Plaza’s court yard with banners of papel for various events.
The strong community of artists working in Northeast Los Angeles where she lives, also influenced her artistic development. As an art instructor, she shares her love of drawing, painting, and craft skills with her students as a way of giving back to her community.
