Heart Coloring Page, Day 23 Featuring Rose Portillo
Rose Portillo is an actor/writer/director/educator AND visual artist. She is a veterana of stage and screen and is probably best known for originating the role of Della in Luis Valdez’s Zoot Suit. As a visual artist she is known for her Dia de los Muertos altars and for her Rosaics - mosaic work with broken tiles and found objects. She was also part of Self Help Graphics first all women atelier led by Yreina Cervantez. Rose has a long relationship with Plaza de la Raza (since its ground-breaking) where she has taught theater, written plays for CAP, directed, performed, and she designed the mosaic that surrounds Plaza de la Raza’s Tiendita, which was managed by her mom, Plaza’s Rosalie Portillo.
