Jesus Chaidez is a Mexican born East LA native, who attended Plaza de la Raza at a young age in the early 90s. He studied everything from ballet, piano, tap, and folklorico before finally finding his voice in the visual arts. It was at plaza where he developed a portfolio that got him into the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and eventually into the San Francisco Art Institute where he majored in painting. Jesus developed hydrocephalus after surviving a comma due to meningitis. Hydrocephalus is a brain condition where you no longer are able to regulate your cerebral spinal fluid, so you have a shunt placed in your head to cycle the fluid for you. After developing this condition Jesus’ work became more meditative immersed in landscape tradition, flower paintings and the narco culture that’s very prevalent in his hometown of Culiacan.  Jesus currently paints out of his studio in the Piñata District in Downtown LA. He is part of La Teteria Cafe where he gives tea tasting that introduce people to tea culture, and it's history and where he continues to further his paintings.
